Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has signed a contract with CLEO Systems to deploy its CLEO SOLO EPS as part of a pilot programme within its Children's Services. The system is being trialed in two areas— Community Paediatrics and the ADHD Nursing Service —where clinicians have historically relied on handwritten prescriptions.
CLEO SOLO EPS is an electronic prescribing solution for secondary care outpatient prescribing settings, working alongside electronic patient record systems and digitises the process of sending FP10 prescriptions to community pharmacies. Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of integrated community, specialist rehabilitation and dental services in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region.
The Trust are looking at digitising prescriptions as the current manual prescribing process poses challenges, including risks of errors, delays and stress for patients and clinicians. By implementing CLEO SOLO EPS, the Trust aims to mitigate risks associated with manual prescribing, making it easier for people to collect prescriptions and reducing the administrative burden on clinicians.
John Morrison, Chief Pharmacist at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust says: “We are looking forward to piloting CLEO SOLO EPS, which has the potential to transform the way prescriptions are managed in our Community Paediatrics and the ADHD Nursing Service. By digitising the prescription process, we will be addressing some of the challenges we’ve faced with manual prescribing. We are excited to see the positive impact this pilot will have for our clinicians and patients.”
Emma Dew, Sales & Marketing Director at CLEO Systems, said: “We are delighted to be working with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on this pilot. CLEO SOLO EPS has already delivered remarkable benefits in similar settings, where it is reducing prescribing errors and administrative burdens and vastly improving the patient experience.”
Following the pilot, plans are being reviewed to extend the system’s deployment across further services across the trust.
