Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust Goes Live with CLEO EPS for Adult ADHD Service
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) has successfully launched the CLEO EPS electronic prescribing solution within its Adult ADHD team. The service, which provides specialist assessment and clinical support for adults with ADHD, will now replace its previous handwritten prescription process with a streamlined digital workflow.
CNTW delivers a wide range of mental health, learning disability and neurological care services across the North of England. CLEO EPS, developed by CLEO Systems, enables fast, secure electronic prescribing, allowing prescriptions to be sent directly to a patient’s nominated community pharmacy.
With clinical staff working across multiple bases in the region, the ability to prescribe from any location is expected to significantly improve efficiency and patient experience. The Adult ADHD service issues around 300 prescriptions each week and anticipates saving around £56,000 in postage and delivery costs alone.
Philippa Adam, Digital Product and Delivery Manager at NTW Solutions Ltd – part of the CNTW Group – said: “This is a really exciting development for us. We cover a large geographical area, so the ability to prescribe electronically will benefit both our clinicians and our patients. The project has run smoothly, and working closely with our Pharmacy colleagues has been key to its success. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact for users and the wider service.”
Leanne Dixon, Digital Services, NTW Solutions, added: “This will completely remove the burden associated with traditional prescribing. Clinicians will no longer need to post prescriptions, patients can collect medication directly from their nominated pharmacy, and issues with handwriting or manual admin will be a thing of the past.”
Emma Dew, Director of Customer Success at CLEO Systems, said: “We are delighted to be working with such a digitally progressive trust and are excited to see the benefits for both clinicians and patients, it has been refreshing to work with another NHS Trust who really see the value in digitalising the prescribing process for outpatients.”
CNTW selected CLEO Systems through a formal procurement process. The recent partnership between the Access Group and CLEO Systems, which enables integration between the Trust’s EPR (Rio) and CLEO EPS, provides added value to the solution. Following a successful pilot within ADHD services, the Trust will evaluate opportunities to expand the use of CLEO EPS across further services.
